Date: 2009-07-25 04:45 am (UTC)Me and Mom and some of my adult cousins feel the way you do about your grandfather re our aunties and uncles. My gram is the youngest and she's in her late 60s. They're all getting older, we've had a number of deaths in that generation over the last few years, and we're starting to realize the things we're losing out on. And for a family with a legacy of good eats, losing out on their recipes is a real loss. Not just b/c the food is good, but we're also losing the stories they used to tell while they cooked and made you chop and shell -- life advice, family stories, general been-there-done-that-don't-you-do-it-too kinds of wisdom.
