I blame this on [livejournal.com profile] klcthebookworm, although [livejournal.com profile] erinm_4600 deserves some of the blame, too ;)

(Why yes, that is my handwriting, and my wall.)

post Summer of Doom(c) (which I really must give an account for before it totally leaves my memory) I have recovered my spindle of blank disks which have been packed up since, oh, June. They have finally been liberated and cooked (don't ask) and so I am free to make music! I know, how very early 2000s. But if you're feeling a bit nostalgic, then I am willing to make you a mixed CD.

Now you're probably saying to yourself, "That's all well and good, Tinpra, but I don't even know what you listen to." Excellent point. I have a fairly wide and disparate range, or so I like to think at least. As many of you know, I'm a Christian so if you've guessed that I listen to Christian music, you're spot on. I love everything from Christian Contemporary to Gospel; music with vaguely Christian themes to secular music sung by Christians; from Pastor Shirley Ceasar to Canton Jones to Israel Houghton; Newworldson to Tobymac to Flyleaf. I think you get the picture.

But I gots lots of stuff! Other genres include but are not limited to: Acid jazz, alternative in its many variations (seriously, my player lists Jack Johnson, Zero 7, U2, No Doubt and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones as alterntive o.O ), classical, electronica, gothic, k-pop/rock/indie, and soundtracks that cover even more genres (from BSG, Veronica Mars, Chocolat, Chronicles of Riddick, and more).

Now I can't promise anyone any particular thing, but if you'd like a data disk filled with a mishmosh of lots of things, I am your gal. Reply to this post with an email address where I can reach you, and we'll work it out off-lj. All replies will be screened.

While Taylor Swift has many charms, an ability to sing is not one of them. Or at least the handful of times I've heard her live I've done it wincing. And so saying, I must ask you f-list, what is the appeal? Certainly, she's hardly the first musician to be a super popular and largely unable to sing (hi, Janet JLo :D ).

Lena Horne, who was the first black performer to be signed to a long-term contract by a major Hollywood studio and who went on to achieve international fame as a singer, died on Sunday night at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. She was 92 and lived in Manhattan.

Oh Lena....

I'll be switching to my (unfortunately small!!!!) batch of Lena Horne icons.

Speaking of music, I love Portland like nobodies beeswax (check out the 1st two tracks in particular). Unfortunately they're in the UK so finding the CD is a wee hard. :( At last check, Amazon had their previous indie release in MP3, but there's another band also named Portland that's, like, death-metal or something. Quite the antithesis of this Portland. And thus kinda funny.

NaNo hasn't officially begun yet, but the the music swapping has. I missed not sharing music for nano almost more than I missed actually doing the crazy thing.

In 2001 Mike Rimmer met up with a young singer Katy Hudson. Six years later, as KATY PERRY the singer was stirring up considerable controversy.

Had a show tonight. Last official show of the season, as I promoted it on my facebook. There were a myriad of potential issues (starting w/about half the band not being at the last 2-4 rehearsals) but it worked out anyway. We debuted "I Am The Walrus" without a hitch, we got great compliments...all in all a good night.

Has that stopped my stomach from doing the butterfly-nervous-cramps-of-woe? Nope. Not at all. *ponders whether the slightly off-smelling milk is safe for cereal and less-than-iron-clad-stomach*

EDIT: NOOOO! Milk made of evil. Tried a teaspoon. I'll be lucky if my stomach doesn't call it quits.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I am not a fan of the Beatles. Everyone else in the band is. Our mentor/teacher is an ecstatic fan. I know 3 Beatles songs from the source by heart (as in I learned them knowing they were by the Beatles) and probably a dozen more Beatles songs that I don't know are Beatles songs. But the truth is...I much prefer the Beatles when I don't know I'm listening to the Beatles.

I like the Monkees better *tongue out to [livejournal.com profile] heroicblogger

I feel so freakin' uncreative. I have about, oh 90-some odd stories left to write, each, for my two [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 claims, a ton of story left to write for my WIP Tin Man fics, editing to do on the novel...and not an original thought in my head. I have a half-formed flashfic floating around my brain, the urge that I should be writing more poetry (only cut my teeth on the stuff), and a remembered funk that, even when I was writing more poetry than I knew what to do with, I never could write songs. Le sigh. I need to sit down and work. On so many levels.

Oh, and I'm pondering picking up 2 more ff100 claims, assuming they're not already tooken.

via [livejournal.com profile] mooney_blues:

1. Write down your name, one letter per line.
2. For each letter, add a song that starts with that letter.
3. You must like the song/the song must mean something to you.
4. If possible, upload the songs so your friends can listen to them.

To You I Bestow by Mundy - I can't explain to you how much I love this song. It won out over "Tainted Love"
In Your Grace by Kirk Franklin for 1NC
New by No Doubt - so I admit that it's the music that makes this one. The lyrics on their own are a wee lame ;) *squishes No Doubt*
Protection by Massive Attack ft. Tracy Thorn - love, love, love this song. The only one I didn't have to ponder first.
Red, Red, Red by Fiona Apple - there's a line in here that makes me think of writing, NaNo in particular
Amazed by Poe - this entire album is made of love. It's the first one I ever truly and completely liked from first song to last.

(b/c, for serious, as far as the e-world is concerned "tinpra" is my real name)

Had a show last night. It went well, or so I'm told (I never think much of my own performance altho the band was some kind of awesome). I of course wanted to puke right after (combo of nerves, adrenaline and an unwitting sip of long island ice tea), but after my friend talked me down off my high...I just had a stomach ache.

Consequently I stayed up too late last night, I now have a headache and reeeeeeaaaaallllllly want my pillow. Bu-ut, Jag is home, I got caught in some really blissful rain on the way home, and I am done until the fall. All in all it was good.

i stole this from [livejournal.com profile] lieueitak when she wasn't on to poke me about it :p

Here's the gig. Go to www.musicoutfitters.com. Type the year of your high school graduation [or first year, if still in high school] into the search function. Retrieve the Top 100 songs from that year. Strike through the songs you hate(d). Underline the songs you like(d). Bold the songs you love(d). Leave blank those you don't care about or don't remember. Annotate at will.

So [livejournal.com profile] orsinosmistress is love. Somehow my beloved height-twin always manages to send me just the perfect thing. This year for me b'day, along with the prettiest pearl earrings this side of a clam shell (yes I know they come from oysters) she sent me a cd chock full of music. And when I say chock full, I mean about 10 albums worth of music. Anywho, among the many things on the disc-of-joy is the soundtrack to one of my randomly fave movies, Chocolat. Which I had been looking for an I-don't-want-to-pay-Amazon.com-prices-for copy of just recently! I tried my library, which has all kinds of random things, but they didn't have. I was gonna download next but wasn't really keen on that since I've still got dial-up. And then qL sends me this! Squee! I think I finally got around to checking out the CD on....Sunday. I only sorta kinda barely checked out the rest of the CD b/c I promised a friend I'd copy all my nano-cds for him when he comes back for Thanksgiving vacation.

So, in case you didn't know it, Best Beloved, you rock the casbah!

thiefed from [livejournal.com profile] she_who_dares a while ago. i'm just now working up the non-slack to do the work part :D

Step 1. Put your playlist on random.
Step 2. Post a line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3. Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly. NO GOOGLING.
