"Daddy. What's that?"

"What's what, Adam?"

"Outside. Come look!"

"Describe it to me. I want to make sure the table is ready in time for lunch."

"Um..." Underneath the table, Michael paused as his son considered whatever unfamiliar sight had attracted his attention. "Well, it looks like that thing you use to put oil in the car?"

Michael frowned. "A bottle? Adam, you've seen--"

"Not the bottle. The white thing. That's bigger at one end and smaller at the other."

"A funnel? It looks like a--" Michael swore. He swore again as he hit his head on the table as he slid out.

Adam was frowning. "Mommy didn't like it when you would say those words."

But Michael heard him only distantly. Outside the big living room windows was the porch. And beyond the porch was a tornado. What they called a twister in this part of the United States. He grabbed his son's hand. "Come Adam. We have to go."

What should I be doing? Oh so many things. Starting with editing the novel!!! I haven't been able to edit for the last week or three for various reasons but now that I'm back to my regular schedule? So out of the groove. And, as always, so completely lazy.

What have I done today? Worked on a TM fic. Which is good in its own way. I'm holding off new chapters of the epistloray fic until I have a new one for this, but still it's not like I don't have other ficcish things to do. I've got a series each for Buffy and La Femme Nikita that are languishing, and a couple of fic requests that have gone unanswered.

And knitting! Although I guess I can do that tomorrow on the way to work.

Oh, and I had a Lost related dream the other night.

EDIT I hate firefox 3.0 or whatever version this is

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I am not a fan of the Beatles. Everyone else in the band is. Our mentor/teacher is an ecstatic fan. I know 3 Beatles songs from the source by heart (as in I learned them knowing they were by the Beatles) and probably a dozen more Beatles songs that I don't know are Beatles songs. But the truth is...I much prefer the Beatles when I don't know I'm listening to the Beatles.

I like the Monkees better *tongue out to [livejournal.com profile] heroicblogger

I feel so freakin' uncreative. I have about, oh 90-some odd stories left to write, each, for my two [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 claims, a ton of story left to write for my WIP Tin Man fics, editing to do on the novel...and not an original thought in my head. I have a half-formed flashfic floating around my brain, the urge that I should be writing more poetry (only cut my teeth on the stuff), and a remembered funk that, even when I was writing more poetry than I knew what to do with, I never could write songs. Le sigh. I need to sit down and work. On so many levels.

Oh, and I'm pondering picking up 2 more ff100 claims, assuming they're not already tooken.

I'm just about done with the last part of LFN fic. Actually technically I am done, but I need to clean up the mucky muck I wrote while half awake last night. So....posting for you soon :)
tinpra: (Default)
Katya, don't mock me for the mini-macro-speak, tho I probably deserve it :p

Anywho, I have a nearly-finished LFN fiction that belongs to my series. It's about...oh two sections and five pages short of being done, but I am, once again, stymied progress-wise. I know where it's going. I even know what scenes need to be done. My dilemma is whether to post it or not. It's long enough to post in sections, but like the first story in the series, it's one complete story. Unlike that one, however, I don't want to post in parts if I can manage it (which I don't think I'll be able to). So I guess I'm just up in the air re whether to start posting it or not, even though I don't know when inspiration will return and I can finish. Sigh...this story and the next, I think, are both long. I think the one after that is short -- and finished.

i just finished off Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn (whom i love). it's the first in a series.

i've also been reading a bunch of fanfics but i'm really really bad at keeping up with them. even the ones i like. anywho, two recent ones are Shadows into Demons by Abi Z. for La Femme Nikita, and Seed Pearls by [livejournal.com profile] honorh for Doctor Who (9th). neither of them counts as a novel or even a novella, i think, but both good. i started reading HonorH's Out of Joint, a Doctor Who/Firefly crossover, but it's not done :'( for updates and such you should check out her lj.

I finally finished Ravi Zacharias' Jesus Among Other Gods and can safely say that I could read that again as if for the first time. It was just that...deep? Thick? Dense? I dunno, but I really feel like I should read it again with a notebook handy. And mayhap a dictionary. Ha!

On the downside, I'm officially out of reading material. Well "real" reading material. I have been reading fanfic, as always, so that's making this list o' reading material:

Prodigals by katt - X-Men Movieverse
How Michael's Locks Were Shorn by MLN - La Femme Nikita
and Blue Eyes by Thea - Farscape...which i technically haven't finished.

I've read a myriad other stories, but these are the only novel/novella length ones I can think of that I've been reading/have read lately.

ugh...

unrelated...isn't my new icon cute! i've gone on a fairy/mermaid binge. there are about 6 more that are unconverted that i desperately want to use somewhere.

Where did betrayal start? In the head or in the heart? That was a line from something, he knew. Something his sister would know – real and fabricated. Simone would have been amused to know that he’d transformed her into his sister upon her death. She would have smirked and shook her head: “Sometimes, Michael, I wonder exactly how you climbed that ladder so fast when I know the only person you’ve been sleeping with is me.” Then she’d cup his big face in her narrow hand and kiss him, soft, sweet, a nip on the end: “Or at least you had better.”

Or she’d pinch him like they were grade-schoolers who didn’t yet know how to express affection: “Cool is not just work related, Michael. Cool is seven days, twenty-four hours, always on the job unflappable. Sister. Birkoff could’ve done better.”

He could have. But Elena had believed him – had let him get away with a piss poor lie, more likely. She had been there

Elements

Power and knowledge were his temptation so they were always sure to keep him supplied with his techno-fix. They had very quickly found that all work and no play made for a very dangerous genius. Like a parasitic plant, he had quickly wound his roots deeply, thoroughly, in and throughout every thing that answered to a mainframe command: files, panels, servers...doors, lights, air. Not out of maliciousness. They hadn't programmed him for that. He'd done it because he could because he'd wanted to know what that system did and where that data backroad would lead him. They shuddered to think what he might have become if he had been pu through regular training, assuming he had survived. But they quickly discovered that a dwarfed thing is still a wild thing. It will bie the hand that feeds if the hand lets it starve long enough.

Their own little feral child.

Operations watched Birkoff twiddling his pencil between the fingers of his left hand as his right hand danced over the controls. The boy was greenish through the monitor.

Title: Five Secrets Elena Samuelle Never Kept
Fandom: La Femme Nikita
Characters: Elena, Michael, Adam, Simone, Madeline
Prompt: 82 - If
Word Count: 5,503
Rating: PG – PG-13
Summary: There are so many things you can’t see.
Dedication: [livejournal.com profile] nikita31j7’s stories are clearly the inspiration for some of these and definitely the impetuous to finish them. And to Carey for helping me with titles. Thanks boy-o.
Author's Notes: this answers the infamous, and now multi-fandom, 5 Things That Never Happened challenge. If you’ve never encountered it, the terms of the fandom are hard to describe, but it really is just what title suggests. There are lots of variations on the theme (and I highly suggest running a search for 5 Things fiction in your favorite fandoms), but it’s very straightforward in its premise. The link that I have relates to the original 5 Things story and challenge, but, as I mentioned, the challenge has crossed into virtually every fandom. Anywho, these stories are AUs to my "One Line" series.
AN2: the sub-titles have less to do with the actual stories than they do with the theme, if that makes sense
AN3: this is a [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 story. check out my prompt table here
