“What were going to do, wet a kerchief and wipe it off?”

“Splendid idea! Now I know I have a hankie in here somewhere…” He stepped back and began searching his pockets.

Martha’s eyes widened. “You wouldn’t dare.”

He paused. “We-ell it’s not quite a dare is it?”

She vacated the chair.

“I’m just saying. I mean if it was a dare I’d be duty bound to—”

“I’m going to my room for a proper lie-down.”

And so he got to watch her leave as well.

He made a face in response. Albeit…different.

“I see.” She tightened her grip around his neck, pulling him closer.

His hands, large and warm, never strayed from her waist though his elbows tucked in closer to her body to facilitate the proximity.

There was a tap on his shoulder. “Your wife, she has a point, Michael. Is that the way to say your wife’s name? This is the tango. It is passion. I want to see it!” Heels clicking sharply, their instructor left to check on another couple as her partner worked the other side of the room.

Michael’s arm slid around Nikita, his hands reaching up to cradle her back and caress her spine. An additional step, individualized artistic flair, was called for in the intermediate class. Michael slowly lowered her, almost losing the rhythm of the music, as he swept her nearly to the floor. He caught it again as he brought her back to herself. The maneuver wasn’t terribly original, but Nikita heard in it what he couldn’t say.
