you've moved on
that's what experience has taught me
that you move on and i don't

is it the dwelling, then, that makes me a writer
that i live with one foot in the present
and one leg in all the things that came before?

maybe that's why we go mad
maybe that's why we're driven to drink and ruin
maybe that's why there's nothing more precious than "a clean well lighted place"
(ah yes, Mr. Hemingway, i finally catch your drift)

so what do i do with a thigh broiling in misdeeds and regrets
and a foot trying to drag me forward?

i write
and i write and i write
hoping someone (other than you) will listen

I like this . . . in fact, I like it (and the last couple you've written) a lot.

Now having said that, I hope you're not having too bad a time of it. Put some weight on that front foot, okay? Then if you can lean forward a bit and latch onto something good, you'll be able to haul that back leg up and out. Meantime, you have my prayers.

:) I'm glad you like it, though I'm sorry to make you worry. I am fine. Thank you for your concern. Despite my many journal entries to the contrary, I'm usually an upbeat, happy person (someone once said I had an aura that sparkles (pre-Twilight, thank God)...ugh). Unfortunately, I don't usually write poetry unless I'm depressed or otherwise down. It's my release valve, I guess. If'n I can find a happy poem, I'll post it for you. :)

I'm twice glad you have poetry as a release valve: One, because it helps you. Two, because I get to read some of your poems!
