Even So

When it became clear that Bruce wasn't going to sit on her other side Contessa allowed herself to slide down and lean against Richard. The boy wasn't quite as tall as she was, unless she was in flats or barefoot and he was wearing shoes. Leaning on him should have been uncomfortable, but half stretched across the couch as she was made it work. For now.

Bruce perched on the arm of the couch beside Richard. "What are we watching?"

"Blade Runner," Richard said.

"Oh?"

"Tessa's never seen it."

She didn't look up at him, but she could feel Bruce's appraisal. "I was busy supporting myself when I should have been catching up on pop culture," she said in answer to the unspoken question. "And then I never got around to it."

"Ah."

She did look up at him then. "I'm surprised you've seen it."

He was looking at the widescreen television. "Richard's influence."

The young man in question shrugged, jostling Contessa in the process. "Is it my fault you two workaholics need to be forced into popular culture?"
