Just seen your shout. Well, I got 100% in all the categories except the Expert . That was 80% but in my defence, British English does not accommodate 'awhile'. I also stand by good old Fowler, who recommends 'whoever' rather than 'whomever', which I think sounds awful!

BTW, can I just turn the knife in your wound and point a hag-like finger at your use of it's when the possessive form is its...

Sorry, couldn't resist...

*pats tinny* my kids call me the queen of punctuation so I guess it's becoming an obsession with me. Plus I'm always tempted to yank chains when I see them so that's my big bad.

have I mentioned that when my mother was an English teacher I was failing English? not b/c of poor grammar, but b/c I was such a wretched student until college.

on the other hand I could never get a real handle on grammar. I know what sounds right and I know what doesn't, but to actually parse a sentence for you? the possibility of finally learning what everything is is one of the few regrets I have about not being a full on English major.

My handle on grammar only really came after studying German. That's when all the mechanics fell into place! ;)

AARGH I dislike when people assume that creative writers don't have to/cannot use proper spelling/grammar. Above all, creative writers are still communicating, and that comes with spelling and grammar and all of that "normal people" stuff.

Rrrr. That's my growl of the evening as I attempt to draft my first creative nonfiction assignment. Full sentences are required.

lol...I'm not assuming. I'm talking from experience. I admit many of my classmates had a better handle on spelling and grammar than other writers I've met since then, but that might have been b/c we were writing for school where there's no time to find a beta and beg them to edit for you.

And I have full confidence in your ability to use full sentences. I've seen you use them before. Has school started for you already? Sheesh. :duck:

lol "people" referred to a lot of people as a whole, not just you...sorry that sounded really accusatory!

Yar, on my first week of classes. And I start work as a Writing Center tutor on Monday...eep! On the lookout for everyone else's writing as well.

(And yes, those were technically fragments. Which is the other fun bit of creative writing.)

(Isn't being able to get away with fragments awesome! You can be all "It's for effect!")
