So I'm talking to a friend of mine online (who may soon disown me. and i was quite enjoying being 3 of 3) when she bringings up this story of a guy who tried to kill a Dalmation puppy by tossing it in a freezing river. The dog survived for six days before being rescued. As you can probably guess people hearing/reading this story were outraged. The courts/papers with-held the man's name because so many people wanted to "beat the crap outta him" for his cruely to this poor animal.

And yet we have no problem with abortion.

Yes, I'm making that leap. Why does a puppy get more rights than a baby? No, I'm not talking about a fetus. I'm not even talking about those supposedly non-human 1st trimester cells. Within the last two weeks the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the ruling against partial birth abortion, which is abortion after the 1st trimester. This is the same court which said that you're not really a person, a baby, until that first trimester. So, basically, the Supreme Court just ruled that babies are worthless. So people care more about that Dalmation puppy, every bit as helpless as an unborn 6 month old, than they do about a human child. Does that make sense to you? When did human life become so cheap? And people wonder about the atrocities in Iraq.

But not to leave it there, no no no...I did ask how many people I can offend all at once. Let's see if it works.

Abortion is also one of the most selfish acts of human beings. Everyone knows that having sex lends itself to possibly creating a child. If you don't want children, really, really, really don't want children then you'd abstain. It's the only absolute to avoid the little ankle-biters. But if you are, then you should be aware of the possiblity of creating a child -- and the responsibility that comes with it. If you are going to run from it, if you can't manage it, if it's inconvenient, stay away from the sex. Have a little self control. But if you can't do either then what gives you the right to say my life right now is more important than your potential life. You don't know who that child will be and who they are meant to become. You don't know how this child will change your life, or someone else's, for the better.

"What about rape-induced pregnancy?"

Um, did you know that the percentage of rape-induced pregnancy is really, really small? And that today there are more than enough drugs, etc., to prevent such a pregnancy? Admittedly this and instances in which the pregnancy would endanger both mother and child, are the only two instances where I'm a bit shaky on my views. But only a touch! Really...you (the ambigous "you" of course) do someething and then refuse to take responsibility for it. It's like that guy who bought the puppy. He thought owning a dog would be fun, but when it turned out to be work that would disrupt his carefully ordered life, the dog had to go. There was no consideration of the dog. There was no thought of what other options he might have instead of killing the poor animal. No, it disrupted him so he was going to deal with it.

Now why does that man sound like a selfish, completely irresponsible turd, but a woman/couple who decide to have an abortion are forward thinking human beings? Is a dog then worth more than human life?

I'm not making judgements with those questions, I want answers. Got any?
