Dear Yuletide Writer
Nov. 12th, 2008 10:25 pmThis is my first Yuletide and I am in a little over my head. Sure I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2003, but that's an entirely different kettle of fish. Hopefully this letter will be helpful and not hurtful or stifling or just plain confusing. I'd say feel free to email me if it is...but I don't think you can! meep!
So in general, I read and like het, gen fic and character studies. I prefer stories that stick to the G - PG-13 range, although I've been in love with and have written good R rated stories before. Well...been in love with them. I'm making no promises about the quality of my own R-rated stuff, that just seems like asking for trouble. And I'm not very particular with genres. Comedy, romance, angst, drama, action...you're writing me a story for a fandom that rarely gets any love. You've already made me happy!
But to specifics: The Wonder Years
I asked for a Karen fic, particularly something post-series. If possible, I'd like something that stays as close to where the storyline seemed to be going as possible but I realize that she was already moving off in a different direction by that last episode. I'm really not too particular about what you do with her. Make me laugh, make me cry, make my eyes bug out. And I know I only mentioned Karen, but bring in other characters and family members at will.
William Gibson's Neuromancer
I am a huge Gibson fan. If I could have chosen all of Gibson's work to choose from, I would have but we do what we can. As it is Neuromancer's one of my faves. I picked Lady 3Jane, Wintermute and Molly not for their utter randomness, but because I've always been fascinated with their larger story, particularly Lady 3Jane. For instance, Gibson gives us a glimpse of Molly's past a la "Johnny Mnemonic" but what about her future? And Lady 3Jane's and Wintermute's after everything that happens. I'm all about the speculation. I'm really not looking for slash or any in-character romance of any kind from these three (although if you can work out something het for them, I'd be delighted and impressed).
The Long Kiss Goodnight
Something else I love with a passion. And again, I'm more interested about the speculative future than I am the past or a missing scene. Like does Charly go back to the whole secret agent gig? Does she say screw it all to take care of her daughter? When does, or does, her daughter finally figure out what's going on and that her Mom isn't like other soccer moms? I always want to know more than what we're left with.
And I hope that's helpful, Dear Writer. I have a sneaking suspicion it's not. I have no idea who you should contact to get more info out of me. If anyone on my flist would like to volunteer as a go-between (or do I somehow seek out the
Thank you so much, Dear Writer! You've already made my Christmas.
Best,
