my mom dropped me off across the street from our apt then went off to look for a parking spot. our apt is directly in the middle of the block, so i crossed the street at the corner and walked. somewhere betw the end of the block and my apartment something began to tickle my neck. i assumed it was the edge of my hair (which is silly b/c i had it in a stretchy headband) or the extender on my leather necklace (also silly b/c it just isn't that long and doesn't move that much).

so the tickling feeling persisted, moving from one side to the other. i let myself into the apartment and am now starting to brush my hands around my neck and in my hair to move my necklace, get rid of the leaf, dislodge the fly...whatever.

what falls off of me? A WATERBUG!!!!!! a freaking huge brown flying WATERBUG! I have never moved up those 4 flights of steps so fast. God only knows how i managed to shriek the entire way (lots of "ew...ew...ewww!"). and then it was so ridiculously steamy in the apt that i had to close the windows and put on the air. did that, ran into my room, still brushing myself off like i had gone OCD, threw off my clothes, gathered up my things and had the fastest, most thorough shower in my entire life!. I swear i was in and out by 9:15. i think the whole thing - freaking out, putting on the AC, taking the shower, doing my hair! - took about 45 mins. the longest 45 mins of my life.

then i wasn't able to go on last night to share the news...but here i be. traumatized. wheeee!e
